Helping on your intentional reading journey!

Tusome [too-so-meh] is a Kiswahili word that means Let us read. Kiswahili is a language spoken in several African countries.

What’s intentional reading, anyway?

Intentional reading means focusing on a specific subject area or theme. For Tusome Books, it’s about widening the scope of reading to incorporate underrepresented voices. This includes stories written by Black, Indigenous, queer, and disabled authors, authors living with chronic illnesses, authors outside of North America, immigrant stories, and so much more.

At Tusome Books, intentional reading is not a short-term goal but a lifestyle change. The call is not to discourage readers from their usual reading but to encourage the inclusion of underrepresented literature.

Our why

Our mission is to eliminate stereotypes about people and various places in the world, and to replace those stereotypes with narratives that reflect their true nature. To this end, we bring stories and experiences that seem so unfamiliar and out of reach closer to the reader.

Tusome Books hopes to empower every reader to embrace diversity by living vicariously through the characters in the rich volumes available at our online store. We love to share stories and experiences that reflect Canada’s rich diversity, and to learn more about people and their lives by connecting with readers.
